This guide covers the steps to get your WINK virtual appliance up and running. Each OVA file is built specifically for your organization and arrives ready to deploy.
Pre-Licensed & Pre-Configured
Every OVA file is unique to your organization. The license and MAC address are hardcoded during manufacturing and cannot be changed. Simply import and configure your network settings to begin.
What You'll Need
- Access to the WINK Client Portal to download your OVA file(s)
- A hypervisor environment (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Proxmox, KVM, or similar)
- Static IP address(es) for your appliance
- Network connectivity to your cameras and/or distribution network
Quick Start Steps
Step 1: Download Your OVA File
Log into the WINK Client Portal and navigate to Downloads. Download the OVA file(s) assigned to your organization. Each file is approximately 16 GB.
Step 2: Import into Your Hypervisor
Import the OVA file using your hypervisor's standard import process. The MAC address is pre-assigned and registered with WINK licensing servers - do not modify it.
See the Deployment Guide for resource allocation recommendations.
Step 3: Power On and Access the Console
Power on the virtual machine and open the console. You'll see the wink-tty text-based console interface. This console is used exclusively for initial network configuration.
Step 4: Configure Network via wink-tty
Using the wink-tty console, configure your network settings:
- Set static IP address
- Configure subnet mask and gateway
- Set DNS servers
Once network settings are saved, all further administration is done via the web interface.
Step 5: Access Web Administration
Open a web browser and navigate to:
https://[YOUR-APPLIANCE-IP]:444
Log in with the credentials provided by WINK. You're now ready to configure your streams.
Port 444 Required
The web administration interface runs on HTTPS port 444. Ensure this port is accessible from your management network. See the Firewall Configuration Guide for complete port requirements.
Next Steps
Once you've accessed the web administration interface, refer to the appropriate product manual:
- WINK Forge: Configure camera inputs and transcoding - see WINK Forge Manual
- WINK Media Router: Configure stream distribution - see WINK Media Router Manual
