Why Traffic Cameras Are Hard

Field cameras on cellular/wireless have:

  • Packet loss - 1-5% typical, spikes to 15%+ during congestion
  • Jitter - 50-200ms variation, sometimes more
  • Intermittent connectivity - Temporary outages, reconnects
  • Variable bandwidth - Drops during peak hours

Standard transcoders fail: green screens, frozen frames, audio desync, crashes.
